Utah Republican Candidate vows to repeal any federal health care takeover and replace it with market-based reforms.
Salt Lake City, UT, January 14, 2010 — Rapidly responding to an open invitation to candidates and citizens from Repealit.org and Club for Growth President Chris Chocola, Utah Republican Senatorial candidate Mike Lee has pledged to repeal any federal health care takeover and replace it with market-based reforms, when elected.
In taking the pledge Mike Lee commented, "Any and all federal legislation with an individual mandate is not only repugnant to the principles of liberty this country was founded upon, but has no constitutional basis whatsoever." Lee continued, "Constitutionally, this issue belongs with the states. Clearly any health care reform must be market based, not run by federal government bureaucrats, and any regulation the people desire should be taken up with their state legislatures."
In issuing the challenge to both citizens and candidates for office, Chris Chocola declared, "If and when Obamacare becomes law, repealing it will immediately become the most important conservative economic policy goal since the Reagan tax cuts. The tax increases, individual mandate, premium hikes, new government agencies and powers and the stealth scaffolding for a single-payer system tucked into the House and Senate bills represent an existential threat to American prosperity."
Upon enthusiastically accepting the "Repeal it" vow, Mike Lee extended the invitation to every Senate candidate and sitting Senator across the country saying, "As Republicans we must lead the fight, not only to repeal a government take over of our health care system, but also to drive a return to principled policy debates, centered in the Constitution."
Those wishing to read the entire text of the challenge and sign on to take the pledge to fight to repeal the Obama health care plan can go to www.repealit.org. Mike Lee will discuss this topic, the Constitution and his candidacy for the U.S. Senate at a campaign event tonight from 7:00-9:00pm at Noah Webster Academy, 205 East 400 South, Orem, UT 84058-6311.
